Below are some parking lot safety tips shared at HealthNet’s Safety Summit:

  • Park in a well-lit area.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Lock all of your vehicle’s doors.
  • Do not leave anything of value in plain sight inside your vehicle.
  • If you must leave valuables in your car, lock them in the trunk, glove box or console BEFORE you arrive at work. Do not immediately retrieve them when returning to your vehicle, wait until you’ve left the parking area and are in a secure place.

When walking to your vehicle:

  • Walk with others if possible.
  • Be observant of your surroundings.
  • Have your keys in your hand.
  • Before getting into your vehicle, look around, below and inside your vehicle.
  • Lock your doors as soon as you are inside.
