Hyde Amendment

Since its creation 55 years ago, the Community Health Centers program, funded under Section 330 of the Public Health Service Act, has focused on primary and preventive health care to millions of people in thousands of communities across the country who would otherwise lack access. This is especially true in low-income, un- and under-insured, and minority populations, and residents of rural and frontier communities with too few providers to serve them.

Health centers provide a wide array of primary and preventive health care services to the 30 million rural and urban underserved patients they currently serve, including prenatal, perinatal, and post-natal/post-partum care to 1 of every 9 children born in the U.S. For over three decades, health center appropriations have been subject to the Hyde amendment that prohibits the use of these funds for abortions.  Health centers have and will continue to abide by the law.
