Walking Program for Patients on the Southeast side is a HIT!

5/2/2011

Spring Into Action kicked off Saturday, April 30, at Southeast Health & Dental Center. Nearly 60 adults registered and participated, along with 30 children.  Participants completed a 1-mile fun walk along a trail mapped out in Fountain Square. During the walk, participants stopped by different health stations to get their blood pressure checked and body fat estimated with a bioelectrical impendence machine. Information tips about how to eat a healthier and how to quit smoking were also provided throughout the day.

All participants were given a free pedometer to count how many steps they took along the way.

Due to the overwhelming response to the walking program kick-off, HealthNet will begin having a weekly walking club that meets every Monday night at Southeast Health & Dental Center.  The walking club will walk a different 1-mile trail each week beginning Monday, June 6. This group will continue through the summer and is open to anyone.  Call the health center at (317) 488-2040 for more information.

We would like to extend a huge thanks to all the volunteers who helped out!
