The Indianapolis Foundation shows continued support for Homeless Initiative Program

8/21/2011

Since May of 2007, The Indianapolis Foundation has been providing case management support to the Homeless Initiative Program‘s Ralph Dowe Legacy Housing project. Case management provides support to 16 chronically homeless individuals to assist them in staying housed. This comprehensive program includes: securing income support, establishing medial and dental and mental health care, and becoming socially connected – with the goal of taking these clients from homelessness to permanent housing and self-sufficiency.

As a former HIP Triage Outreach Worker, Brianna Sauer, HIP’s Case Manager for the Dowe Project, has developed a rapport and level of trust among the chronically homeless that can be very difficult to achieve. Using a housing first approach, Dowe clients are moved directly from the streets or emergency shelter into permanent housing, and THEN, along with Brianna, work to address the underlying issues of their chronic homelessness and access the services needed to keep their housing.
