Sonja Bachus Named Deputy Chief Operating Officer of HealthNet

HealthNet has named Sonja Bachus as the organization’s new deputy chief operating officer, effective June 2, 2015. She will help oversee the day-to-day operations of the state’s largest federally qualified health center. HealthNet provides care annually to more than 59,200 uninsured and underinsured patients in Marion County and beyond through its growing network of 12 primary care health centers and several outreach programs.
Bachus has more than 12 years of experience in health care management, most recently as the Assistant Director of the Institute of Clinical Orthopedics and Neurosciences in Palm Springs, CA.
Before joining the Institute, Bachus served as a project manager and ethics/compliance officer for the Hospital Corporation of America’s Information Technology and Services MidAmerica division. Prior to that, she served in several management roles with Swope Health Services, a federally qualified health center providing primary health care, outreach and behavioral health services through its 11 medical, dental, and behavioral health/residential treatment centers in the Kansas City, MO area. These included operations project coordinator, assistant director and administrator of operations, service line administrator, and EMR implementation trainer/analyst.
In announcing the selection, HealthNet Chief Operating Officer Rick Diaz said, “We are very pleased that Sonja will be joining us. She has a passion for the critical role community health centers play as safety net providers. Sonja will be a true asset to HealthNet and the many patients we serve.”

Bachus has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Washburn University and a master of jurisprudence in health law from Loyola Law School.
