Senator Richard Lugar Tours HealthNet Southwest Health & Dental Center

3/13/2011

On Saturday, March 12, 2011, U.S. Senator Richard Lugar made a visit to HealthNet’s new Southwest Health & Dental Center. He was greeted by HealthNet staff, board members and the Southwest Health Center Board.

After touring the health center, the Senator was kind enough to sit down with board members and staff to have a very relaxed, yet enthusiastic, conversation.  The group expressed appreciation for Senator Lugar’s longstanding support for HealthNet and community health centers as a whole. The Senator was instrumental in the start of the first Southwest Health Center site in the early 1970s, when he served as Mayor of Indianapolis.

The new Southwest Health & Dental Center, located at 1522 W. Morris St., is a 24,000 square foot facility with 30 primary care and OB/GYN exams rooms, more than doubling its former size and capacity. In addition, the center offers dental services, as a state-of-the-art dental clinic with eight operatories has been added. With this new facility, HealthNet is able to see an additional 8,000 patients per year and slightly over 1,800 patients per year for dental services.
