Innovative Partnership Brings Free Flu Shots to Martinsville on Oct. 22

9/15/2020

Over the past few months, HealthNet, Indiana University Health, the Community Foundation of Morgan County, the Kendrick Foundation, and Churches in Mission have been meeting (virtually) to identify gaps in medical services offered in Morgan County and explore ways to improve healthcare access especially in the more remote rural communities of the county.

The first outreach event to emerge from the partnership is a free drive-through flu clinic scheduled for Thursday October 22, from noon to 4:30 p.m., in the Martinsville Churches in Mission parking lot at 60 West Pike Street. All precautions will be taken to minimize viral exposure, including administering flu shots while people remain in their cars. Anyone who receives a flu shot will be entered into a drawing to win one of two $100 Walmart gift cards, provided by the Community Foundation of Morgan County and the Kendrick Foundation.

In addition to HealthNet's administration of free flu shots, Indiana University Health will offer free bike helmets, or vouchers for free helmets, and fittings for families with children in school during the hours of the flu clinic.

While there are many unmet healthcare needs in Morgan County, the partnership decided to begin with a flu clinic to introduce HealthNet to the community.

The initiative is sponsored by HealthNet's Mobile Health Outreach Committee.
