WHAT:  HealthNet Homeless Initiative Program staff members will distribute around 400 donated winter coats to the homeless.

WHERE: HealthNet Homeless Initiative Program, 1835 N. Meridian St.

WHEN:   Friday, January 8, 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

DETAILS:

The Pacers, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Republic Waste Services teamed up for the annual Pacers Coat Drive benefiting the HealthNet Homeless Initiative Program (HIP) on Dec. 19. Fans were encouraged donate a new or gently-used coat at two Indianapolis-area Dick’s Sporting Goods locations. In return, participants received one Pacers game ticket per coat donated to the Pacers vs. Hawks game on Dec. 26 and an autograph from Indiana Pacers’ point guard T.J. Ford.

More than 400 coats were collected through the drive. Republic Waste Services transported the coats to HIP, where they will be distributed between 9 and 11:30 a.m. tomorrow through HIP’s walk-in program.

Media parking and the entry-point for the coat distribution will be behind the building.

For more than 20 years, HealthNet’s Homeless Initiative Program (HIP) has helped homeless persons in Marion County reach a level of independence consistent with their goals and capabilities for health and well-being. Last year, 2,430 homeless persons benefited from HIP’s multi-disciplinary approach to coordinate and provide housing, health care, outreach, employment, and support services to the homeless in Marion County.
