HealthNet to Mark One Year Anniversary of Health Care Law

3/1/2011

INDIANAPOLIS - HealthNet will mark the one-year anniversary of President Obama’s signing the Affordable Care Act (ACA) into law by hosting a special event on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 3 p.m.

HealthNet People’s Health & Dental Center will host community leaders and health officials to watch a commemorative address by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.  The speech will be streamed live from a conference in Washington, D.C. sponsored by the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC), which draws thousands of health centers leaders from around the country.

Staff and patients at HealthNet People’s Health & Dental Center will closely watch the Secretary’s speech because health centers play a critical role under health reform.  Following the broadcast of the speech, Mayra Alvarez, director of public health policy with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Health Reform, will address the audience and answer questions. A key provision of the law provides funding to expand the national network of Community Health Centers to double the number of patients they serve – from 23 million today, to 40 million in 2015.  Alvarez and health center spokespeople will be available for comment following the speech.
