HealthNet Offers Free Community Flu Shot Clinic on January 26

1/20/2013

HealthNet will offer a free, walk-in flu shot clinic on Saturday, January 26, 2013 from 9 a.m. to noon at HealthNet Southwest Health & Dental Center, 1522 W. Morris St., near I-70 and Harding St. on Indianapolis’ near southwest side.

Free flu shots will be available to anyone ages six months and older at this special, one-day clinic. You do not need to be a HealthNet patient. Children age 18 and under must be with a parent or guardian to receive a shot. No appointment is required.

Available on a first-come, first-served basis while vaccine supplies last will be:

Regular Flu Shots: For people ages 6 months and older.
High-Dose Fluzone Shots: For adults age 65 and older, who are at highest risk for complications of seasonal flu, including hospitalization and death

The event is in partnership with the Marion County Health Department. With the winter influenza outbreak, flu activity can linger for a couple more months so it’s not too late to get a flu shot. The Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) recommends that all people 6 months old or older should get the flu vaccine, and especially those that are at high risk for complications from the flu, such as pregnant women, nursing home residents and long-term care facilities, people 65 or older and people with medical conditions, such as heart disease, lung disease, kidney disease, and diabetes.
