HealthNet H1N1/Seasonal Flu Shot Clinic A Success

10/24/2009

More than 2,900 people received free H1N1 flu shots during today’s H1N1 and seasonal flu vaccination clinics at six HealthNet health centers. In addition, 550 seasonal flu shots were given.

The turnout was within projections. Individuals began to arrive as early as 4 a.m. and at one point more than 50 people were waiting in line for one of the clinics to open at 10 a.m.

“We were impressed with the large number of children brought to the clinic. We also were able to vaccinate many women who are pregnant, so we feel this clinic was successful,” said Booker Thomas, HealthNet president and CEO.

The clinics moved smoothly and a majority of those attending were able to complete the vaccination process within an hour.

HealthNet’s flu shot clinic day is the second opportunity Marion County residents could get the H1N1 vaccine outside of a private healthcare office. The Marion County Health Department held the first clinic last Thursday.

For those unable to attend HealthNet’s flu shot clinics, the Marion County Health Department anticipates 5,000 more doses of H1N1 vaccine will arrive next week. Additional public clinics will be announced when local health officials know more about shipments of the vaccine.  Visit http://www.mchd.com for more information.
