HealthNet and YMCA of Greater Indianapolis to Host Community-wide COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics on May 10 and June 14

HealthNet, Inc. and the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis will host COVID-19 vaccination clinics on May 10 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and June 14, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Avondale Meadows YMCA Gymnasium, 3908 Meadows Dr. The clinics will be run and staffed by HealthNet team members administering the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Free vaccinations will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis for those 18 and older. No registration is required. Walk-ins are welcomed. Appointments are also available at ourshot.in.gov or by calling 211. Masks are required and will be provided for anyone who does not have one. Although not required, participants are requested to bring i.d. to streamline registration.
COVID-19 has taken its toll, with certain populations more severely impacted, including the elderly and those with underlying health conditions, such as diabetes, heart conditions and obesity. Health and social inequities have also put many people from racial and ethnic minority groups at increased risk of getting sick and dying from COVID-19. According to the Centers for Disease Control, people of color have been 2.6 times more likely to get the disease, 4.7 times more likely to be hospitalized, and 2.1 times more likely to die from COVID-19.
“We hope these clinics will reduce transportation barriers and be an encouragement for everyone to get vaccinated, especially in our black and brown communities,” said LaShanda Lang, Executive Director of the Avondale Meadows YMCA. The vaccine clinics are a part of the YMCA’s vaccine equity initiative.
“COVID-19 has affected all of our lives—and it’s going to take all of us working together to beat the virus and get us back to what matters most,” added HealthNet President/CEO Rick Diaz. HealthNet team members have been on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic since the beginning, providing COVID-19 testing, treatment and vaccinations.
