As the largest midwifery practice in the state of Indiana, we have been welcoming new babies since 1991.

We believe that pregnancy is a special time in the life of a family, and that birth can be an empowering experience. We believe in keeping labor as natural as possible, but are skilled in using interventions when needed to keep mothers and babies safe and healthy. Physicians who specialize in Obstetrics and Gynecology are part of the health care team. We follow the standards of care developed by the American College of Nurse Midwives and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

The word “midwife” literally means “with woman.” HealthNet’s certified nurse-midwives work with you, listen to you, and help you make educated decisions about your health through all the stages of your life.

Our certified nurse-midwives are specially trained and licensed to provide a comprehensive range of wellness and gynecological health services for women. They can care for you through labor and delivery as well as provide your annual, breast, and pelvic exams, as well as mammograms, screenings and prescriptions.

They are experts in menopause counseling and hormone replacement therapy, and they work with an emphasis on promoting normal physical processes and emotional support.

While educated in standard obstetrics and gynecology, certified nurse-midwives include holistic approaches in treating health problems. They believe in healing through caring for a woman’s mind, body and spirit. Sensitive to and respectful of differences in medical treatment among cultures, our certified nurse-midwives adapt to each woman’s particular needs to give her comfort.

All HealthNet midwives are registered nurses with additional education in midwifery and national certification by the American College of Nurse-Midwives.

All deliveries take place at the Riley Hospital Maternity Tower. We do not offer home births.

You can rest easy knowing that you and your baby will have direct access to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Riley Hospital, if needed.

Our Philosophy

The certified nurse-midwives who practice with the HealthNet Nurse-Midwifery program view childbirth as a safe, beautiful, and normal process.

We encourage women to be active participants in maintaining their health during pregnancy, birth and throughout their lifespan.

We respect the diversity of beliefs, values and expectations of our patients and will assist them in personalizing their care. While the provision of physical care is an important aspect of nurse-midwifery, we also believe that emotional and social supports, as well as education, are essential components of health care.
